Sculptra: What You Need To Know as an Injector

Injecting takes time, experience, finesse, and of course, proper education. Many injectors start off with popular treatments like Botox and Dermal Fillers. However, everyone wants to learn about trending treatments that have clients rushing to their nearest med spa. One of those treatments just happens to be Sculptra.

While Sculptra isn’t meant for the novice injector, it is certainly one all injectors want to know about! Working with the body to improve volume and skin structure, Sculptra treatments provide beautiful natural results that clients love. And the best part? Sculptra can refresh the volume of your cheeks . . . on your face AND booty! In addition to reducing aging signs on your face, clients love to see the stunning and voluminous results of the non-surgical Sculptra BBL! Read on to learn what you should know about Sculptra injections as an injector.

How Does Sculptra Work?

While often grouped with fillers for the ability to add volume, Sculptra is actually in a different category of treatments. Dermal fillers typically use a substance, like hyaluronic acid, to add volume and fill in wrinkles. However, Sculptra is known as a bio-stimulator, which means it uses poly-L-lactic acid to trick the body into replenishing collagen and improving skin structure and volume.

There are several specific requirements you should know before injecting Sculptra, here are just two:

  1. Sculptra arrives in a powder-like form and proper dilution is required before treatment

  2. This solution will need to be prepared 24 hours in advance

  3. Preparation time and dilution ratio will vary per professional. However, a thorough understanding of these processes and experience working with Sculptra are keys to obtaining optimal results and avoiding any complications during treatment.

Why is Sculptra so Popular?

Collagen is king (or QUEEN) when it comes to skin health, and the public is quickly catching on. There is an allure surrounding products and injectables which work from the inside out, and Sculptra is no different. In addition to offering long-term results, Sculptra actually works to heal skin structure, improves volume, brightens skin, and produces natural-looking results.

We would be remiss if we failed to talk about the elephant in the room. And by elephant, we mean the Brazilian Butt Lift! Yes, Sculptra is fantastic for filling in those hollow cheeks and can work some serious magic on the face. However, people are absolutely losing it over the Sculptra BBL. Firmer, rounder, and smoother backsides can all be obtained with a handful of Sculptra sessions. Clients are obsessed with Sculptra results and even more obsessed with how long they last. With all the hype, what’s not to love?

Sculptra Customer Service 101

Many clients will come to you wanting the moon and the stars and a bigger butt or fuller face. Well, we can definitely provide two of those! But it’s important to discuss the treatment process with your patient before over-promising extraordinary results. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when recommending Sculptra treatments to a patient.

  1. Results Take Time

Prepping the patient prior to their appointment will help avoid uncomfortable situations. The last thing we want is a disappointed patient, and setting reasonable expectations will certainly help smooth over any issues in the long run.

  2. Multiple treatments Will Be Needed

In addition to taking time for results to fully form, Sculptra often requires multiple treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Offering treatment consultations and setting up a treatment plan will allow you to outline the total treatments you think will be necessary as well as how much everything will cost, so there are no discrepancies down the line.

  3. Results Are Not Reversible

Whether it be injector error or cold feet on the patient’s end, sometimes results just don’t turn out as expected. Make sure to inform your patient that Sculptra cannot be reversed once injected. This may be a hard pill for the patient to swallow in the middle of treatment, so ensuring an honest discussion about treatment risks prior to injecting is always recommended.

  4. Results Are Long Lasting, Not Permanent

As injectors and medical professionals, we are taught that results in the aesthetics industry are very rarely permanent, no matter how much we wish they were! Sculptra results can last up to 2 years, and with that level of semipermanence it can be easy for your client to forget to make their follow-up appointments. Follow-up treatments can begin about one year (give or take) after treatment to maintain results. Keep in touch with your clients to make sure they are happy with their results, offer a monthly newsletter, or follow up after a certain time and offer to book their next treatment. Maintaning contact with your client in some way builds trust and makes it much more likely they will continue coming back to you for years to come.

Experience is Key!

Not just any injector can walk off the street and begin injecting Sculptra. Oftentimes, Sculptra is learned a few years after becoming an injector and entering the med spa industry. Harnessing the finesse of injecting takes a lot of time and education. As an injector, you must know how to properly inject, where to inject, how to work with different skin tones, bedside manner, possible side effects, and so much more. The more knowledge and experience you have under your belt as an injector will make learning Sculptra much easier.

That being said, we know quite a few go-getters out there looking to inject Sculptra ASAP. Sculptra is certainly a trending treatment and who wouldn’t want to jump on that train!
